Information about the Kingdom of Bhutan

Bhutan, officially known as The Kingdom of Bhutan is a landlock country in the eastern Himalayas. Bhutan is located between Tibet (People's Republic of China) and India. Nepal and Bangladesh are located in close proximity to Bhutan but do not share a land border. The country has a population of about 780.000 and territory of about 38.000 square kilometers.

Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy since 2008 with Buddhism as a main religion. The Kingdom of Bhutan was established in 1907 by the first King Ugyen Wangchuck. The current King is His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and he is the fifth king of the House of Wangchuck.

The capital of Bhutan is Thimphu having about 100.000 citizens. The official language is

Dzongkha. The official currency is Ngultrum.
